VESCO Engineering has grown into a regional engineering consulting company providing technical field services for: rotating machinery analysis and repairs, laser and optical precision alignment, dynamic single and multi-plane balancing, modal analysis of structures, finite element analysis, acoustic and noise analysis, and custom design/build of computerized data acquisition and control devices for industrial applications, providing technical reviews, expert testimony and assisted industrial and area homeowners with blast induced vibration and noise concerns.

Northeast Utilities, Berlin, CT (1982 to 1985) Engineer, Equipment Analysis, Nuclear Engineering and Operations

Performed vibration analysis on rotating machinery and structures. Conducted vibration and noise surveys for sound intensity projects and multi-channel spectral analysis on a variety of power production machinery including nuclear, fossil fuel, gas turbine, and hydroelectric stations. Designed and developed computerized vibration data collection and automated analysis systems. Conducted acoustic and noise surveys in-plant and communities.

Northeast Utilities, West Springfield, MA (1986-1989) Engineer, Operations Auditing, New England Power Exchange Responsible for implementing reliability studies and initiates to evaluate and improve the electrical supply, distribution and control of the New England Power Grid (peak load 18000 MW). Worked closely with Dr. Nathan Cohn (now deceased) who is often referred to the father of Automatic Generation Control. Served as chairman of the Nuclear Power Dispatch Task Force and organization composing all nuclear power generators in New England responsible for coordinating nuclear power dispatch. Developed various automatic data collection and analysis systems requiring the coordination of multiple computer systems for next day power system evaluation.

US Navy, USS Gato (SSN-615), (1973-1979) Mr. Johns served as an Electrical Operator, Shutdown Reactor Operator, and section leader aboard a US Navy nuclear powered fast-attack submarine. Mr. Johns duties included vibration analysis of rotating machinery, preventative maintenance, training program coordinator, instructor, dynamic balance technician, and ship's photographer.

ENGINEERING PROJECT MANAGEMENT

In his position as president of VESCO Engineering, Mr. Johns has served as project manager over field technical services, acoustic and noise projects, finite element and computerized modeling projects, and client training. Mr. Johns is responsible for management of both in-house technical staff of engineers and technicians as well as an extensive network of subcontractors and vendors including engineers, technicians, and fabricators.
